History

The ultimate in grape-growing terroirs, if historians are to be believed, the story of the vineyard and wines in the Touraine appears to have begun in the heart of the Vouvray AC. Since the establishment of vineyards in Vouvray by monks from the Marmoutier monastery in the 4th century up to the recognition of the Appellation d’Origine Contrôlée for Vouvray in 1936, the Chenin grape has stood the test of time and allowed the appellation to make its mark, a real character of its own, with often envied typicity which is sometimes copied but never equaled.

When he was bishop of Tours, Saint Martin, then the monks and finally the bourgeoisie strove to develop the quality of the wines produced in the Vouvray appellation. From planting to pruning techniques, from harvesting to vinification, the Chenin grape makes excellent use of the strengths of this terroir to reveal supple, powerful and harmonious wines in the glass.
